Özet

The objective of this proposal is to establish the foundational structure for accredited training in research management and administration (RMA) leading to a locally relevant qualification such as a PG Certificate, Diploma or Masters (RMasters). The programme is strategically designed to address the growing need for skilled professionals in research administration, driven by the increasing complexity and demands in research funding and project management. Through this Transnational Education (TNE) initiative, we aim to enhance international collaboration between the UK and Turkiye, promote inclusive access to high-quality education, and advance the professionalisation of RMA through formal education and specialised training. Context and Rationale: The increasing competition for research funding places greater demands for administrative, managerial, financial, ethical, and legislative accountability from applicants. Research management now requires specialized skills to navigate complex regulatory environments, meet funding body expectations, and manage large-scale interdisciplinary and transboundary projects. This heightened complexity underscores the critical need for dedicated RMA professionals who can effectively support researchers and align research activities with strategic institutional objectives. Despite the essential role RMAs play, there is a significant gap in formal education and training specific to this field. This project aims to address that gap by scoping a structured programme and developing a taster digital certification course that can act as a foundation module for future qualification. It is proposed a future qualification could be delivered using a stackable credit framework that would enable RMA professionals to gain a qualification alongside work. The programme would target not only students but also current RMAs and scholars who are willing to develop their skills in research funding and project management. The rationale behind this project is to actively test and pump-prime the market for comprehensive RMA training, bringing together higher education institutions from the UK and Turkiye to cultivate the next generation of RMA professionals.
